Punjab and Uttarakhand, the twin states that went to polls on Monday, saw largely peaceful elections without any untoward incident being reported. Punjab saw a turnout of over 77 per cent. There were minor skirmishes in Punjab, however, when clashes occurred in the cities of Bhatinda and Ludhiana.

Ludhiana BJP Yuva Morcha General Secretary Sanjay Kapoor was attacked during the clashes. News agency PTI reported that stones were pelted at the Dera Sacha Sauda's office in Bhatinda.

Amarinder Singh of the Congress, Manpreet Badal of the Punjab People's Party and Navjot Singh Sidhu of the BJP – all cast their votes, as did cricketer Harbhajan Singh.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, 70 per cent polling was recorded, unfounding fears of the BJP that there will low voter turnout in the state due to inclement weather.
Former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was among the first to cast his vote.
